The results of mole tunnelling are well known and cause damage and nuisance in many situations-

Equally, there are situations where molehills and tunnels do not cause problems and where moles must be valued and respected as an important mammal species. Where control measures are needed, there are generally two main methods: trapping and gassing. Strychnine (strychnine hydrochloride) can no longer be used for mole control in the UK (as from September, 2006). However, it is accepted that there are many alternative control methods and approaches which can be adopted and which enjoy varying degrees of success. That said, it is widely accepted that trapping is the most effective way to control the mole population.

As a traditional molecatcher, I only use traps which are designed to kill the mole humanely. These days, this historic method of mole control is often confused with pest control services. There are fundamental differences and my service is distinct and far removed from the more commercial pest control operations.
